Round 6 - ANZAC Round (LINK)
April 25th 2008 03:26
Its a big round of footy this week, all kicking off with Collingwood & Essendon at what is likely to be a packed MCG. Both clubs on a 2-3 record desperately need the win, and given the ANZAC matches over the past 10 years it is going to be a hard fought contest.
You would have to say there are higher expectations over the pies this than that of the bombers. Both teams capable of playing good footy, but with Collingwood within 5 points of a grand final last year, that seems fair.
My money is on the pies, however I do like the fast pace of Essendon and I hope for all the foot fans forced to watch two clubs that aren't own compete it is a good game. Essendon lost youn Davey in training yesterday to a rumoured ACL injury, he will most likley miss the rest of the season. That loss of pace and excitement will hurt the bombers, but the pies have some major outs of thier own.
Anthony Rocca has been in some terrible form, some say he is old and tired, some others saying it is actually the midfield that aren't getting it to them. I doubt he'll play, but of course coach Mick Malthouse won't announce it until right before the game. The Pie's captain Scott Burns also set to miss the clash due to injury concerns. Look for players like Medhurst, Didak and big game gun Dale Thomas to set the MCG alight and guide the pies home by 20-30 points.
Brand new to the game this is the announcement of a second match to take place on ANZAC Day, over in Subiaco Fremantle will host the unstoppable Geelong. I have some major issues with this game. Firstly second ANZAC Day game isn't such a bad thing, but you need to teams that have a rivalry - maybe like a derby. I can't remember the last time Fremantle played Geelong, nor will anyone remember this game next year. My other problem with this game is that Fremantle are going to be comprehensively taken care of. Geelong by 75 to 100 points.
Check back later for the rest of this weekend's action.
